Cummings Cove Earns High Distinction

Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club in Hendersonville, N.C. recently was named one of “America’s 100 Best Master-Planned Communities.” The designation from Where To Retire magazine is the result of a lengthy selection process. In her congratulatory letter to Cummings Cove, Publisher Karen Northridge said: “During a nine month selection process, our editors reviewed several hundred candidates across the country. Your community is among an elite group of developments that offer today’s retirees a well-rounded, active lifestyle.”

The list of “America’s 100 Best Master-Planned Communities” appears in the July/August 2009 issue of Where To Retire magazine with photos and details on each community. The only community in Western North Carolina accorded this honor, Cummings Cove is one of ten selected in North Carolina.

Liberty! named Tennessee Outdoor Drama

Speaker of the House Kent Williams and Rep. Phil Roe (R-1st) were among the dignitaries at Tennessee’s Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area in Elizabethton during the July presentation of the General Assembly resolution designating Liberty! as the official Outdoor Drama of the state of Tennessee.

Saying the historic area hosts what is “unquestionably the state’s finest outdoor drama, Williams noted, “This park and its success is vital to the entire region …We are seeing impressive growth in tourism and many other related areas because of what is happening here.”

Last year more than 300,000 people visited Sycamore Shoals, which this season will host more than 60 reenactments, musical concerts and special events, including the acclaimed Native American and Celtic festivals.

Congressman Roe read his statement from the floor of the House of Representatives in Washington earlier in the week, congratulating and thanking all the volunteers who “contribute their time and efforts to Liberty! for honoring our great state of Tennessee.”

Also on hand for the presentation were Mike Carlton, assistant commissioner of the Department of Environment and Conservation, and Nat E. Hyder, president of the Friends of Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area.

“Liberty! is our flagship program,” Hyder said, “but, in truth, every activity, every reenactment, every presentation and every story told here really is about one thing: remembering, and honoring, an extraordinary breed of people.”

FSSSHA Vice President Jim Bishop added, “This is a wonderful night. It is the reaffirmation of the importance that Sycamore Shoals has played in the birth of our nation. The events that took place here shook the earth and forever changed the political landscape in our country.”

Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area is located at 1651 W. Elk Ave.
Elizabethton.

The new Greenbrier Classic, part of the PGA Tour, will be held on the resort’s old White Course.

PGA Tour Heading to The Greenbrier

The PGA Tour and The Greenbrier jointly announced that they have entered a six-year agreement, through 2015, whereby the historic West Virginia resort will sponsor and host The Greenbrier Classic as part of the FedExCup, beginning July 26 - Aug. 1, 2010.

The new tournament will be held on The Old White Course, The Greenbrier’s original of four golf courses, dating back to 1914. The Greenbrier will form a separate non-profit charitable organization to serve as the tournament operator.
Measuring nearly 7,000 yards and playing to par 70, The Old White Course originally was designed by Charles Blair MacDonald and most recently underwent an extensive renovation by Lester George to return it to its original design, reopening in 2006. Montaluce features a working winery and vineyards for residents to enjoy.

Discovery Packages Now at Montaluce

This fall, Montaluce in Dahlonega, Ga. will offer “Getaway Discovery”
wine weekends for prospective buyers. Conceived upon a popular demographic trend known as the “new ruralism,” Montaluce is being built around the nucleus of a working winery and vineyard.

People who choose the Montaluce lifestyle, says co-developer Rob Beecham, are end users who share a nostalgic, romantic need to embrace the Florentine aesthetic of “simple pleasures gained by living well,”
and would rather enjoy recreations without making them a mandatory part of the community masterplan.

Common areas within Montaluce feature a working winery and vineyards instead of a golf course greenway. In addition to fitness, swimming and tennis facilities, there will be amenities such as owners’ club cellars and private tasting rooms, as well as a world-class gourmet restaurant. The community offers available vineyard, river, and forest view lots. Villa lots begin in price at $99,000.
